The Government of Italy is currently funding a two years (2018-2019) UNFPA multi-country program on response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health needs of women and girls affected by the Syria crisis in Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. As part of this program, UNFPA Jordan is currently supporting the women and girls comprehensive centre in Karak that serves as a catchment area in the south of Jordan. Moreover, UNFPA has also funded a centre in Tafileh and a Jordanian Women Union supported CBO in Ma’an (also located in southern Jordan). However, the services in Tafileh were discontinued due to the low number of clients. In the South of Jordan the number of refugees is lower than in other areas, which influenced prioritization at the beginning of the crisis when interventions focused on the North, Amman and refugee camps. A growing number of partners and donors have now been moving the attention to the South, opening new services and filling gaps. Notably the South of Jordan is a conservative environment.
