Amman, Jordan, March 20 - Dr. Feras Al-Hawari, Minister of Health, met with UN Assistant Secretary General and UNFPA Deputy Executive Director/Programs, Dr. Diene Keita, on Sunday to explore ways to strengthen bilateral collaboration in assisting the Government of Jordan and the national health system in advancing the Sexual Reproductive Health Rights agenda.

According to a statement released by the ministry today, the meeting brought together officials from the ministry and UNFPA to explore ways by which UNFPA supports Jordan to achieve the 2030 agenda.

Dr. Al-Hawari expressed his appreciation for the UNFPA Jordan country office's efforts to promote maternal and child health with the goal of achieving zero maternal mortalities, zero unmet needs for family planning needs, and zero gender-based violence cases.

Dr. Keita, for her part, reviewed the most significant areas of cooperation with Jordan in the health sector, particularly during the COVID pandemic, congratulated the Jordanian government on its achievements in the health sector, and agreed that Jordan should demonstrate its success by documenting those achievements.

During the discussions, the UNFPA agreed to maintain coordination and collaboration with the ministry on specified objectives, the majority of which are to promote quality of care within the SRH realm of the Jordanian health system and the inclusion of the SRH in universal health coverage.
