UNFPA Jordan provides vital support and assistance to those affected by crises, with a focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention and response, and the well-being and fulfillment of young people. UNFPA’s aim is to empower service providers and ensure the sustainable delivery of high-quality services to vulnerable populations, in particular women and girls.
The humanitarian programme of UNFPA Jordan primarily focuses on four key areas:
- Coordination: UNFPA takes a leading role in coordinating efforts related to reproductive health, gender-based violence, and youth. UNFPA Jordan chairs the national reproductive health sub-working group, co-chairs the national GBV sub-working group, and actively participates in other coordination groups. By assessing the situation and identifying gaps, UNFPA collaborates with various stakeholders to address the specific needs of women and young people effectively and efficiently.
- Capacity building: UNFPA provides continuous technical support and capacity building to reproductive health service providers. This includes training on the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP), national reproductive health protocols, Clinical Management of Rape (CMR), and referral pathways. UNFPA Jordan is committed to training humanitarian actors on GBV prevention and response, ensuring that service providers, religious leaders, and community leaders are equipped to address GBV issues effectively. UNFPA Jordan also supports the institutional and technical capacity building of organizations and institutions working with young people.
- Provision of services: UNFPA Jordan facilitates the establishment of reproductive health clinics, where they offer a range of services such as antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, counseling, and sexually transmitted infection management. UNFPA Jordan conducts reproductive health education, focusing on topics like family planning, hygiene, and breastfeeding. Additionally, UNFPA Jordan operates Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS), which serve as meeting places for women and girls to learn about their rights, access essential life skills training, and receive specialized GBV services. We also provide case management and psycho-social support, including counseling, support groups, referrals to other services, and recreational/livelihood activities. UNFPA Jordan’s efforts in reproductive health and GBV prevention and response directly benefit thousands of beneficiaries every week.
- Supply provision: UNFPA Jordan ensures the availability of essential reproductive health supplies by providing emergency reproductive health kits and contraceptives to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and partner organizations. These kits contain drugs, equipment, and supplies for reproductive health services, including contraception methods and post-rape kits with HIV prevention medication. UNFPA Jordan also supports the provision of other reproductive health equipment and ambulances.
Through a comprehensive approach, UNFPA Jordan strives to minimize maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, to eradicate GBV risks and consequences, and to address the needs of young people in humanitarian settings. Our work includes coordination, capacity building, service provision, and supply support, all aimed at ensuring the well-being and empowerment of affected populations.
