The Ministry of Youth and the United Nations Population Fund in Jordan (UNFPA) have in March 2025 signed a cooperation agreement to implement action plans addressing youth needs and aspirations under the Tenth Country Programme Cycle (2023-2027).
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Youth, H.E. Engineer Yazan Al-Shdeifat, and UNFPA Representative in Jordan, Dr. Himyar Abdulmagni.
This partnership aims to operationalize United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security, supporting the implementation of the national action plan aligned with the resolution. It also seeks to provide technical and advisory support for programs and initiatives that enhance youth participation in decision-making and promote healthy lifestyles.
In his remarks, Minister Al-Shdeifat reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to translating UNSCR 2250 into tangible actions, emphasizing its core pillars focused on strengthening the role of youth in peace and security. He highlighted Jordan’s significant progress in advancing the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda both locally and internationally, led by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II—from chairing the UN Security Council session in 2015 to the launch of the Arab Strategy on Youth, Peace, and Security in 2024.
He also noted that Amman will host the launch of the executive plan for the Arab Strategy on Youth, Peace, and Security this year, with broad participation from Arab youth.
Minister Al-Shdeifat commended the strong partnership with UNFPA in supporting Jordan’s efforts to activate UNSCR 2250 and implement initiatives that empower young people and enhance their engagement across various sectors.
UNFPA Representative, Dr. Abdulmagni, underscored that this collaboration aligns with UNFPA’s mission to ensure that every young person reaches their full potential. He expressed UNFPA’s continued commitment to providing technical support for the establishment of a Youth, Peace, and Security Unit under the Ministry’s umbrella.
Dr. Abdulmagni also expressed pride in this strategic partnership with the Ministry of Youth, which aims to enhance youth capacities and enable their meaningful participation in sustainable development. He further emphasized that this collaboration reflects a shared vision of fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for youth, offering them opportunities for growth, leadership, and decision-making.
