Amman-The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Jordan in partnership with the Higher Population Council (HPC), held the Fifth Consultative Meeting on the Expected Role of Administrative Records in the Jordanian Statistical System. This meeting brought together different stakeholders including officials from various ministries and national institutions responsible for generating and managing administrative records, with a focus on strengthening Jordan’s statistical infrastructure, supporting the upcoming 2025 General Population and Housing Census, and improving the measurement of Sustainable Development Goal indicators. Participants emphasized the importance of accurate and comprehensive data in creating policies that address the well-being of individuals and communities, and they explored the transition from traditional censuses to register-based methods, along with enhancing transparency, reliability, and electronic data linkage across governmental entities to ensure timely and standardized information.
During the meeting, the Higher Population Council highlighted the achievements of previous consultations, which led to evidence-based policy briefs, and demographic analyses that have supported national efforts in understanding Jordan’s demographic landscape and responding to emerging needs. Policy papers and analyses on child marriage, women’s withdrawal from the labor market, and the use of sexual enhancement drugs, among others, have enabled the Council to provide relevant recommendations to executive, service, and media bodies. These policy briefs and demographic data analyses have consistently been updated with administrative data, offering an informed basis for national planning and policy implementation.
In his remarks, UNFPA Jordan Representative Himyar Abdulmughni underscored UNFPA’s commitment to strengthening demographic resilience in Jordan and emphasized the power of accurate data for evidence-based policy. He noted, “Accurate and comprehensive data is not just numbers and statistics, but one of the most important foundations for building effective policies that ensure the well-being of individuals and societies. UNFPA is committed to strengthening demographic resilience—enabling Jordan and other countries to anticipate population shifts, develop evidence-based responses, and achieve sustainable development.” He also reiterated UNFPA’s support for modernizing vital statistics systems, promoting electronic linking mechanisms between databases, and ensuring informed investments in youth, education, health services, and equitable development policies.
The meeting concluded with participants pledging to intensify coordination among national institutions, implement pending recommendations from previous dialogues, and uphold international statistical principles. These commitments serve as a pathway to enhancing Jordan’s administrative records, promoting effective measurement of key indicators, and ensuring that data-driven policies contribute to a stable and prosperous future for all.
